Design Your Own Pizza
Here’s how to design your perfect pizza.
1. Choose a crust and place it in a pizza pan or shallow baking pan. You’ll need to dust the bottom of the
pan with cornmeal or lightly oil it if you choose homemade crust, refrigerated biscuits, or biscuit mix.
2. Choose a sauce and spread it thinly over the crust. (If you are really in a hurry, use a frozen pizza and
add extra toppings.)
3. Top the sauce with one or more foods from the toppings column.
• If the meat is raw, cook it before adding it. Canned meat or those that were cooked
before freezing, like chicken nuggets, don’t need to be cooked beforehand.
• Fresh, canned, or frozen fruits and vegetables can be used.
4. For extra flavor, lightly sprinkle one or two items from the finishing touches column over the top of
the pizza.
5. If you are using dough, bake the pizza according to the directions on the dough package. Pizzas made
with crusts that are already baked only need to be heated in an oven preheated to 400° F (205° C) for
8 to 10 minutes.
6. When your pizza is finished baking, you can slice it and serve right away. You also may want to top the
cooked pizza with other ingredients. For instance, if you don’t want fresh herbs or leafy greens to wilt while
the pizza bakes, add them after the pizza is out of the oven.
