Hand-Operated Levers
Hand-operated levers are usually replaced as an
assembly. Begin by carefully removing any trim panels
that block access to the lever fasteners. You may need to
remove one or more of the front seats and partially pull the
carpet back to reach the lever fasteners. Remove the fasten-
ers holding the unit to the mounting bracket or body panel.
Unhook the cable end from the lever slot and remove the
warning switch electrical connector if necessary, then
remove the lever from the vehicle.
Check the old and new levers to ensure the replace-
ment is correct. Place the new lever assembly in position
and attach the cable end and switch electrical connec-
tor. Loosely install all fasteners, then tighten. Recheck
parking brake and warning light operation, and adjust as
needed, Figure 19-10. This hand brake assembly is located
between the seats. A dashboard mounted hand brake is
shown in Figure 19-11.
Foot-Operated Levers
Foot-operated levers are also replaced as an assembly.
Start by removing any trim panels and repositioning the
carpet and floor mat as necessary to access the foot lever
assembly. Remove the warning switch electrical connector
