iv  About  the  Authors  Chris  Johanson  has  been  involved  in  the  automotive  service  business  for  more  than  35  years,  working  as  a  technician,  an  instructor,  and  an  author.  Mr.  Johanson  has  extensive  experience  in  the  service  and  repair  of  all  automotive  sys-  tems  and  is  an  ASE  Certifi  ed  Master  Technician.  He  also  has  ASE  certifi  cations  in  Advanced  Engine  Performance,  Light  Vehicle  Diesel  Engines,  Light-Duty  Hybrid  Electric  Systems,  Refrigerant  Recovery  and  Recycling,  Auto  Maintenance  and  Light  Repair,  and  Undercar  Specialist  Exhaust  Systems.  Mr.  Johanson  has  authored  or  coauthored  several  automo-  tive  textbooks,  including  Auto  Brakes,  Auto  Suspension  and  Steering,  Auto  Heating  and  Air  Conditioning,  Auto  Engine  Performance  and  Driveability,  Automatic  Transmissions  and  Transaxles,  Manual  Drive  Trains  and  Axles,  Auto  Fundamentals,  and  Auto  Service  and  Repair.  He  is  a  member  of  the  South  Carolina  Chapter  of  the  National  Association  of  College  Automotive  Teachers,  enjoys  restoring  and  main-  taining  classic  vehicles,  and  is  actively  involved  with  the  South  Carolina  Chapter  of  the  Pontiac-Oakland  Club  International.  Martin  T.  Stockel  received  his  degree  from  College  of  the  Redwoods  in  Eureka,  California,  and  completed  additional  automotive-related  coursework  at  Humboldt  State  University  in  Arcata,  California.  He  honed  his  automotive  skills  by  working  as  a  service  technician  at  independent  shops  and  automobile  dealerships.  Mr.  Stockel  is  the  coauthor  of  several  automotive  technology  titles,  including  Auto  Fundamentals,  Auto  Brakes,  and  Auto  Suspension  and  Steering.
