It  may  be  necessary  to  fi  le  the  slotted  holes  to  allow  more  movement.  Th  ere  are  several  ways  to  adjust  the  caster  on  MacPherson  strut  vehicles.  Some  caster  adjustments  are  made  by  moving  the  strut  rod  in  or  out.  See  Figure  17-38.  Loosen  the  lock-  nuts  and  turn  them  in  the  same  direction  until  the  proper  adjustment  is  made.  Tighten  the  nuts  and  recheck  caster.  On  certain  vehicles,  the  strut  rod  is  used  for  caster  adjustment,  but  the  rod  length  must  be  changed  by  installing  or  remov-  ing  spacers  at  the  point  where  the  rod  contacts  the  lower  control  arm,  Figure  17-39.  On  some  vehicles,  the  rod  must  be  replaced  with  one  of  a  diff  erent  length.  On  some  vehicles,  the  caster  and  camber  are  adjusted  by  moving  the  strut  tower.  See  Figure  17-40.  Loosen  the  nuts  holding  the  top  of  the  strut  tower.  Th  en  slide  the  tower  forward  or  backward  to  adjust  caster,  and  in  or  out  to  adjust  camber.  Th  e  strut  tower  mounting  holes  on  the  body  may  have  to  be  cut  or  fi  led  to  create  a  slot.  Figure  17-41  shows  a  template  for  cutting  slots  in  the  body  sheet  metal.
