From File
option allows you to specify the location by importing a KML
or KMZ fi le. KML stands for Keyhole Markup Language. A KML fi le contains latitude,
longitude, and, sometimes, other data to pinpoint a location on Earth. A KMZ fi le is a
zipped KML fi le.
In order to use the Autodesk online maps service, you must fi rst create an Autodesk
360 account. To create an Autodesk 360 account, select the
Open Autodesk 360
button
in the
Online Files
panel on the
Autodesk 360
ribbon tab. Follow the instructions to
create a user name and password. After creating the account, you can use the Autodesk
online maps service.
Select
From Map
from the
Set Location
drop-down list and pick
Yes
when asked
if you want to use live map data. The
Geographic Location-Specify Location
dialog
box appears and allows you to select a location directly on the map. See Figure 17-7.
If necessary, use the zoom and pan tools to navigate to a specifi c location. Then, right-
click on the location and select
Drop Marker
Here. A geographic marker is placed at the
location and the latitude and longitude for the location are saved. Pick
Next
to display
the
Geographic Location-Set Coordinate System
dialog box, which allows you to select
the coordinate system and time zone. Select the appropriate coordinate system and
then pick Next. This switches you back to the drawing, where you can specify a point
for the geographic location in the drawing. After picking a point, you are prompted to
specify the north direction. Pick a point that should be in the north direction, enter an
angle, or use the
First point
option to pick two points that defi ne an angle. Once this is
set, a geographic marker is added at the selected point and the online map is displayed
in the background. The geographic marker looks like a red and white thumbtack. See
Figure 17-8A.
