Controlling the Dimension Line Angle
The
Horizontal
and
Vertical
options, available after you establish the extension
line origins, are helpful when it is diffi
cult to produce the appropriate horizontal or
fi
vertical dimension line, such as when you are dimensioning the horizontal or vertical
distance of a slanted surface. The
Horizontal
option restricts the
DIMLINEAR
command
to dimension only a horizontal distance. The
Vertical
option restricts the
DIMLINEAR
command to dimension only a vertical distance. The
Mtext,
Text,
and
Angle
options are
available to change the dimension text value if necessary.
The
Rotated
option, also available after you establish the extension line origins,
allows you to specify a dimension line angle. Practical applications include dimen-
sioning angled surfaces and auxiliary views. This technique is different from other
dimensioning options because you provide a dimension line angle. See
Figure 17-5.
At the
Specify angle of dimension line 0:
prompt, enter a value or specify two points
on the line.

P P P IP AutoCAD dimensioning should be accurate and neat. You can achieve
consistent, professional results by using the following guidelines:

Never round off decimal values when entering locations, distances,
or angles. For example, enter
.4375
for 7/16, rather than
.44.

Set the precision to the most common precision level in the drawing
before adding dimensions. Adjust the precision as needed for each
dimension.

Always use drawing aids, such as object snaps, to ensure the accu-
racy of dimensions.

Never type a different dimension value from what appears high-
lighted or in
To change a dimension, revise the drawing or dimension settings. Only adjust dimension text when it is neces-
sary to add
prefibrackets.suffi
and fixes
xes or to use a different text format.
