NOTE NOTE
After selecting a single arc or a single elliptical arc segment to join,
you can use the
cLose
option to form a circle from the arc, or to form
an ellipse from an elliptical arc. This option closes the two ends of the
selected segment, but does not join the segment with any additional
objects that are present.
Joining Different Object Types
You can join lines and arcs to polylines, or join lines, arcs, and polylines to splines.
Access the
JOIN
command and select the objects to join. Apply the rules of joining
objects of the same type to joining a combination of objects. However, segments cannot
overlap or have gaps. The fi nal object becomes the most complex of the original objects.
Trimming Trimming
Use the
TRIM
command to cut lines, polylines, circles, arcs, ellipses, splines, xlines,
and rays that extend beyond an intersection. Access the
TRIM
command, pick as many
cutting edges as necessary, and then press [Enter]. Then pick the objects to trim to
the cutting edges. Preview the operation before trimming. To exit, press [Enter]. See
Figure 11-16.
Automatic windowing is often a quick and effective method for trimming multiple
objects. The
TRIM
command also offers
Crossing
and
Fence
options that provide stan-
dard crossing and fence selections. Figure 11-17 shows using the
Crossing
option to
trim multiple objects. Figure 11-18 shows using the
Fence
option to trim multiple
objects.

Arcs must share the
same center point
and radius, but there
can be gaps between
segments, as shown.
Arcs can also share
the same endpoint
or overlap.
