Drawing Problems - Chapter 1 Drawing Problems - Chapter 1 5 448 AutoCAD and Its Applications—Basics Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Drawing Problems Start AutoCAD if it is not already started. Start a new drawing for each problem using an appropriate template of your choice. The template should include layers and text styles, when necessary, for drawing the given objects. Add layers and text styles as needed. Draw all objects using appropriate layers. Use appropriate text styles, justification, and format. Follow the spe- cific instructions for each problem. Use only drawing and editing commands and techniques you have already learned. Do not draw dimensions. Use your own judgment and approximate dimensions when necessary. Basic 1. General Use QuickCalc to calculate the result of the following equations. A. 27.375 + 15.875 B. 16.0625 7.1250 C. 5 × 17′-8″ D. 48′-0″ ÷ 16 E. (12.625 + 3.063) + (18.250 4.375) (2.625 1.188) F. 7.2522 2. General Use QuickCalc to convert 4.625″ to millimeters. 3. General Use QuickCalc to convert 26 mm to inches. 4. General Use QuickCalc to convert 65 miles to kilometers. 5. General Use QuickCalc to convert 750 cubic feet to cubic meters. 6. General Use QuickCalc to find the square root of 360. 7. General Use QuickCalc to calculate 3.25 squared. Intermediate 8. Mechanical Show the calculation and answer used with the LINE command to make an 8″ line .006 in./in. longer in a pattern to allow for shrinkage in the final casting. Show only the expression and answer. 9. Architectural Solve for the deflection of a structural member. The formula is written as PL3 /48EI, where P = pounds of force, L = length of beam, E = modulus of elasticity, and I = moment of inertia. The values to be used are P = 4000 lbs, L = 240″, and E = 1,000,000 lbs/in2. The value for I is the result of the beam (width × height3 )/12, where width = 6.75″ and height = 13.5″. 10. General Calculate the coordinate located at 4,4,0 + 330. 11. General Calculate the coordinate located at (3 + 5,1 + 1.25,0) + (2.375,1.625,0).
