Creating Blocks as Drawing Files Cre a ting Block s as Dr a wing File s Blocks that you create with the BLOCK command are stored with the drawing. A wblock created using the WBLOCK command is saved as a separate drawing (DWG) fi le. You can also use the WBLOCK command to create a block from any object. The object does not have to be a block defi nition. Insert the wblock as a block into any drawing. Access the WBLOCK command to display the Write Block dialog box shown in Figure 24-15. Creating a New Wblock One purpose for creating a wblock is to prepare a new drawing fi le from existing objects that you have not converted to a block. To apply this technique, pick the Objects radio button in the Source area. The process of creating a wblock from existing non-block objects is similar to the process of creating a block using the BLOCK command. Specify an insertion base point using options in the Base point area, and select the objects and the disposition of the objects using options in the Objects area. The Base point and Objects areas function the same as those found in the Block Definition dialog box. In contrast to a block, a wblock is saved as a drawing fi le, not as a block in the current drawing. Enter a path and fi le name for the block in the File name and path: text box in the Destination area or pick the ellipsis (…) button to display the Browse for Drawing File dialog box. Navigate to the folder in which you want to save the fi le, confi rm the name of the fi le in the File name: text box, and pick the Save button. The Write Block dialog box redisplays with the path and fi le name shown in the File name and path: text box. Finally, use the Insert units: drop-down list to select the type of units that DesignCenter should use to insert the block. Pick the OK button to fi nish. The objects are saved as a wblock in the specifi ed folder. Now you can use the INSERT command in any drawing to insert the wblock. Saving an Existing Block As a Wblock To create a wblock from an existing block, pick the Block radio button in the Source area. Select the block to save as a wblock from the drop-down list. Use the options in the Destination area to locate the wblock, and pick the OK button to fi nish. Type WBLOCK Figure 24-15. You can also create a wblock from an existing block definition (using the Block radio button) or a drawing (using the Entire drawing radio button).
