Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. 154 AutoCAD and Its Applications—Advanced When the command is initiated, you are prompted to select the objects to sweep. Select the profi le(s) and press [Enter]. Planar faces of solids may be selected by holding the [Ctrl] key as you select. Multiple profi les can be selected. They are swept along the same path, but separate objects are created. Next, you are prompted to select the path. The path and profi le can lie on the same plane. Select the object to be used as the sweep path. To select the edge of a surface or solid as the path, press the [Ctrl] key and then select the edge. Once you select the path, the profi le is moved to be perpendicular to the path and extruded along it. The sweep starts at the endpoint of the path nearest to where you select it. The Mode option that is available when the SWEEP command is initiated controls the closed profi les creation mode. This allows you to change the way in which closed shapes are handled. Normally, the SWEEP command produces a solid object when a closed shape is swept, but surfaces may be created by changing this mode. For example, a circle swept with a line as the path will normally create a solid cylinder. Setting the Mode option to Surface will result in a tube created as a surface model. Exercise 7-1 www.g-wlearning.com/CAD/ Complete the exercise on the companion website. Changing the Alignment of the Profi le By default, the profi le is aligned perpendicular to the sweep path. However, you can create a sweep where the profi le is not perpendicular to the path. See Figure 7-3. After the SWEEP command is initiated, select the profi le and press [Enter]. Before selecting the path, enter the Alignment option. The default setting of Yes means that Figure 7-1. A—This open shape will be swept along the path (shown in color). B—The resulting surface. A B A B Figure 7-2.
