Chapter 24 Standard Blocks 749 Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Assign one person to update and copy symbol libraries to all workstations. Copy drawing fi les to each workstation as necessary. Keep the master and backup versions of the symbol libraries in separate locations. Purging Named Objects Purging N a med Object s A drawing typically accumulates unused named objects that may be unnecessary. Unused named objects increase drawing fi le size and may make it more diffi cult to locate and use content that is common and necessary. Access the PURGE command to purge unused items from the drawing using the Purge dialog box. See Figure 24-17. The Purgeable Items button at the top of the dialog box is active when you enter the PURGE command. Pick the Find Non-Purgeable Items button to view content that cannot be purged. Use the Named Items Not Used tree view to locate and highlight items to purge. Pick the item name to display a preview in the Preview window. Check the All items check box to purge all unused named objects, or check specifi c categories and individual named items as necessary. Before purging, check the Confirm each item to be purged check box in the Options area to have an opportunity to review each item before deleting. Check Purge nested items to purge nested items. Checking Zero-length geometry in the Purge Unnamed Objects area is an effective way to remove all zero-length objects, such as a line or arc drawn as a dot. These objects are often mistakes or unintended results of drawing and editing processes. Check Empty text objects to remove all text objects that include only spaces. Check Orphaned data to remove any data remaining from referencing a design (DGN) fi le, such as a MicroStation® DGN fi le. Pick the Purge Checked Items button to purge the selected named objects, or pick the Purge All button to purge all unused items. Picking the Purge All button activates All items in the tree view.
