26 Introduction to Video Game Design
Lastly, a game must have a victory condition. A victory condition defines what the
player must achieve in order to win the game. It is a moment in gameplay where the player has
overcome the objective and is the winner of the game or a level within the game. In baseball,
the victory condition is the team with the most points at the end of nine innings is the winner. In
a video game, the victory condition may be defeating a very strong enemy or getting to the end
of a quest. It is the imagination of the game designer that sets the victory condition.
