Drawing Problems - Chapter 17 Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Chapter 17 Materials in AutoCAD 479 4. General In this problem, you will create a bitmap and use it as a transparency map and a bump map. A. Draw a rectangle with an array of smaller rectangles inside of it as shown. Sizes are not important and the pattern can be varied if you like. B. Display a plan view of the rectangles. Then, copy all of the objects to the Windows Clipboard by pressing [Ctrl]+[C] and selecting the objects. C. Launch Windows Paint. Then, paste the objects into the blank file. Notice how the AutoCAD background outside of the large rectangle is also included. D. Use the select tool (rectangle) in Paint to draw a window around the large rectangle created in AutoCAD and the smaller rectangles within it. Copy this to the Windows Clipboard by pressing [Ctrl]+[C]. E. Start a new Paint file without saving the current one and paste the image from the Clipboard into the new blank file. Now, the unwanted AutoCAD background is no longer displayed. If needed, change the small rectangles to black and the lattice to white using the tools in Paint. The colors should be the reverse of what is shown below. Then, save the image file as P17-4.bmp and close Paint. F. In AutoCAD, draw a solid box of any size. G. Using the materials editor, create a new material. H. Assign the P17-4.bmp image file you just created as a transparency map. Adjust the map so that it is scaled to fit to the object. I. Render the scene and note the effect. J. Turn off the transparency property by unchecking the check box in the cate- gory name. K. Assign the P17-4.bmp image file as a bump map. Adjust the map so that it is scaled to fit to the object. L. Render the scene and note the effect. M. Save the drawing as P17-4.
