Applying New Skills
1. Oral report. Research foster care laws in
your county or state. Who can become a
foster parent and how are children placed
in foster homes? Present your findings to
the class in an oral report.
2. Parenting interview. Interview a parent
or parents who head a family structure
different from your own. Ask about the
roles of family members and the pros and
cons of the family structure. Then write a
summary of your findings.
3. Picture wall. As a class create a picture
wall depicting families in various stages
of the family life cycle. For each stage, list
key points that are unique to the stage on
note cards to mount with the pictures.
4. Researching services. Use Internet or
print resources to research preventive or
supportive services in your community.
Find out what services they provide
for families, especially children. How
can families receive these services?
Inquire about the benefits. Then put your
information into a pamphlet to give to
classmates and others you know.
