The expected human lifespan continues to lengthen, now well into
the eighties. With extended life expectancy comes a greater need for
human services workers to provide care in nursing homes, adult day care
centers, assisted care, and resource allocation (Figure 1.11). A growing
need for more care for those living with mental illness or substance abuse
exists in group homes and residential care facilities as well. If you love
caring for and helping people, a human services career might be right
for you.
