released, the throttle lever should retract to the
idle speed screw.
A multifunction lever will hold the throttle
in a part-open position and the choke closed
for starting the engine. The multifunction lever
in Figure 9-14A is set to the start position.
Make sure the multifunction lever works cor-
rectly when you engage the interlock, pull the

is worn, it must be replaced. Allow the rope
to slowly retract and release the handle when
the rope stops. Check to see that the rope fully
retracts.
Operate the thro ttle trigger several times to
make sure it depresses and releases smoothly.
Observe the throttle cable at the throttle lever.

Figure 9-14. Follow the manufacturer’s start procedures to determine if the multifunction lever, throt-
tle interlock, and throttle trigger work correctly. The operation of one manufacturer’s multifunction lever
is shown here. A—To start the engine, the choke is fully closed, the throttle is held half open, and the
throttle lock is engaged. B—When the engine starts, the choke is manually moved to the partially open
position. The throttle remains locked half open. C—When the throttle is pulled, the choke moves to the
fully open position.
