For example, a simple animation is required to show a square moving from
left to right. The keyframes of the animation are the starting frame (square
left) and the ending frame (square right). If this animation is one second in
length and to be played back on a computer, there should be 30 frames in the
animation. On frame 1, the designer positions the square on the left. On frame
30, the designer positions the square on the right. The designer does nothing
on the rest of the frames (2 through 29). When the animation is rendered, the
computer calculates how the square should appear on frames 2 through 29.
Stop-Motion Animation Stop-Motion Animation
Creating an animation of physical objects typically involves capturing a single
frame, slightly adjusting the objects, and capturing another single frame, repeating
this over and over until the animation is completed. This process is called
stop-
motion animation.
Each frame of the animation is a picture of the motion in
progress. By quickly playing the frames in order, the illusion of motion is created.

In cel animation, multiple cels may be created, assembled, and photographed to create a
single frame.
