Calculate the potential savings from completing the first two years of a bachelor’s degree program at a community college. Identify each school’s name and location (city). Utilize college and university websites for information on schools in your state. Find the cost per semester hour or yearly tuition cost at each. Use 32 semester hours per year as your basis. Compare tuition costs for the following: ■ four years at a state university ■ four years at a private college or university ■ two years at each, community college and a state university ■ two years at each, community college and a private college or university COLLEGE and CAREER PORTFOLIO When you apply for a job, community service, or college, you will need to tell others about how you are qualified for the position. A portfolio is a selection of related materials that you collect and organize. These materials show your qualifications, skills, and talents to support a career or personal goal. These materials may be in the form of certificates of achievement, written essays on a number of design-related issues, and a transcript of your school grades and courses. A portfolio is a living document, which means you should review and update it on a regular basis. Two types of portfolios are commonly used: print portfolios and digital portfolios (also called e-portfolios). ■ Use the internet to search reliable sources for print portfolio and digital portfolio. Read articles about each type. Then, briefly describe each type in your own words. ■ You will be creating a portfolio in this class. Write a paragraph describing which type of portfolio you prefer. What might be the benefit of creating both? Monkey Business Images/Shutterstock.com
