Lab 13.2 Hermetic Compressor Motor Common terminal R T Starting terminal Running terminal CC SS R Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 13.2-1. Lab Introduction A hermetic compressor will be used to identify the connecting terminals by measuring resistance and following a procedure. The compressor will not be powered up. Equipment • Hermetic compressor • Safety glasses • Multimeter Procedure 1. Turn off the power to the compressor, if applicable. 2. If the compressor terminals are connected, record the wire configuration or take a picture. 3. Disconnect the compressor, if applicable. 4. Make a sketch of the terminals. Assign a number to each terminal. 5. Measure between the three combinations—1 and 2, 1 and 3, 2 and 3. 6. Review Section 13-9. 7. Measure the resistance between each terminal to the compressor housing ground.
