Name ________________________________________________________________ Date ________________________ Class ________________ 51 Activity 5.1 Bone Identification Worksheet Review the major bones of the human skeleton, both axial and appendicular, and define terms used to describe common bony features. Activity 5.2 Classification of Joints Worksheet Review the various types of joints, the movements they allow, and the importance of bursae, tendons, ligaments, and fibrocartilage in their proper function. Activity 5.3 Major Skeletal Anatomy Palpations Laboratory Investigation Identify and palpate the major bony landmarks on the human skeleton. The most obvious function of bones and joints is to provide support and movement for the body. They allow people to stand upright, move around, and perform various tasks. The bones of the ribs protect internal organs. But bones have several other roles as well. They store calcium and phosphorus until they are needed for various body processes. Bones are also the site of hematopoiesis, or the formation of red blood cells. Performing the activities for Chapter 5 will help you become more familiar with bones and joints and their normal characteristics, which in turn will improve your understanding of the human body.
