However, if basic safety rules are not followed, an auto shop can be very dangerous. This chapter summarizes the layout and safety rules of a typical auto shop. Auto Shop Layout There are several different areas in an auto shop. It is impor- tant that you learn your shop layout and organization to improve work efficiency and safety. Repair Area The repair area includes any location in the shop where repair operations are performed, such as the shop stall, lift, alignment rack, and outside work area. It typically includes every area except the classroom, locker room, restroom, and toolroom. Shop Stall A shop stall is a work area where a vehicle can be parked for repairs. Sometimes, the stalls are numbered and marked with lines painted on the floor. In some shops, lifts are located in one or more stalls.
