Using Auto Fill A selection consisting of more than one cell is called a range. Ranges are used quite frequently in Excel, whether it is applying formatting to a range or selecting a range of data for use in a chart. Additionally, Excel has a feature called auto fi ll that al- lows additional cells to be fi lled with data based on the pattern in a selected range. 14. Select cells A4 and A5 by clicking cell A4, holding the left mouse button, and dragging to cell A5. This range is referred to as A4:A5. Notice the green rectangle around the selected area indicates the cells composing the range. TIP A range can be selected by holding down the [Shift] key and using the arrow keys to navigate. 15. Click and hold the small green block at the bottom-right corner of the range, which is the auto fi ll block, drag down to cell A26, and release, as shown in Figure EXL3-1.
