Click the drop-down arrow below the Insert button on the ribbon (Home tabCells group), and click Insert Cells in the drop-down menu. Since an entire column is selected, a new column is inserted to the left of the selected column. The data in the selected column are moved to the right to make room for the new column. If only a single cell or a range of cells is selected, the Insert Cells command in the drop-down menu (not the button itself) opens a dialog box in which you must specify how the data are shifted.
