Family, Career, and Community
Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a student
organization that promotes personal
growth and leadership development
through family and consumer sciences
education. As the only in-school student
organization with the family as its focus,
FCCLA is an ideal companion to Child
Development: Early Stages Through Age 12
and other courses in your school’s family
and consumer sciences program.
Involvement in FCCLA offers the
opportunity to
participate in activities and events at
local, state, and national levels
develop leadership and teamwork skills
help others through community
service projects
prepare for future roles in your family,
career, and community

Strong leaders are able to effectively solve problems.
Develop your leadership and problem-solving skills by
completing an FCCLA
Dynamic Leadership
project for the unit
Problem Solving for Leaders.
For example, you can develop
a project that would help young children solve problems.
Brainstorm a list of ways in which you can help children learn
the problem-solving steps. Choose your best idea and create
a presentation that would appeal to children. Then arrange
to present your lesson to a small group of children. Take it a
step further and participate in an FCCLA Star Event, such as
Teach and Train.
Use the FCCLA
Planning Process
to plan, carry out, and evaluate your project. Your FCCLA advisor can
provide you with further information.

develop leadership and
problem-solving skills
recognize the value of good health
establish positive work-related attitudes
and habits
Many of the Focus On: Family and
