Internet browser. Windows Defender identifies
what appears to be spyware, but allows the user

later date if it is found not to be spyware.
Tablet PC Settings
Tablet PC Settings were first introduced in
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and continue
through newer versions of Windows. The newest
enhancement to tablet settings is touch screen
support. This enhancement was introduced in
Windows Vista. Touch screens are designed for
users to simply touch the screen with their finger
or a pen (stylus). Keyboard input can also be touch
generated by displaying a keyboard on the screen
and simply touching the desired keys.
Tablet settings allow the user to adjust the
pen and tablet features related to the display
area. The tablet settings are designed for tablet
computers which use a pointing device or a
desktop PC that is attached to a tablet-style input
device. Figure 2-20 shows the

dialog boxes. As you can see, the settings provide
selections to conFigure the pen and touch display,
calibrate pen input, and customize the Tablet PC
Input Panel. There is also a calibration feature
to convert handwriting into fonts associated
with typing from a keyboard. After handwriting
calibration is configured, handwriting can be
converted to a typed document. Tablet devices
commonly have their own configuration software
application and may not use the Microsoft
Windows version.
Offline Files
The Offline Files feature was first introduced
with Windows 2000 and further enhanced in later
operating systems. This feature synchronizes file
content that is stored on a network server with a
copy on the computer. The file on the computer
can be used whenever the network is not available.
Cloud storage offers the same ability as Offline
Files.
Gadgets
Windows Vista introduced a desktop feature
called gadgets. It was continued for Windows 7, but
not for Windows 8. This feature resides by default
on the right side of the desktop, Figure 2-21.
Gadgets are mini software programs that provide
services, such as an online dictionary, a notepad,
