62 Computer Service and Repair
Transfer tool to reinstall the files and settings to
the new operating system. You can also use this
tool to transfer user accounts, files, and settings
from an old computer to a new computer.
Some of the types of files you can transfer
are documents, music, pictures, e-mail settings,
contacts, messages, program settings, user
accounts, desktop backgrounds, network
connections, screen savers,
Start
menu options,
taskbar options, network printers and drives, and
Internet and web browser settings.
Not everything on an old computer system
is transferable. For example, most application
software will not work after being transferred.
You will need to reinstall the software using the
original disc. Also, when updating an operating
system, especially when going from a 32-bit to
a 64-bit system, you will most likely need new
hardware drivers and new versions of antivirus
software. The Windows Easy Transfer tool can
generate a report identifying most problem areas
that might be encountered.
