Chapter 3 Networking for Your
Overview
Networking is a term used frequently in the workforce. When people interact with others in
business situations, they are networking. Networking can be used to expand your list of professional
contacts. These individuals may be able to assist you in advancing your career. Through networking,
professionals can meet other colleagues in their fi
eld. Quite often these associates support each other
in fi
nding jobs and succeeding in the workplace.
Networking can be done formally by attending meetings or events or informally through conver-or
sations with someone you meet at work or at a social event. Networking can take place in person
online. Any communication that leads to career discussions can yield a new networking contact.
Approach the process in a serious manner. Use common sense and etiquette. Build your network
and continue the process throughout your career.
