Part Five Dimensions of Families
Members of strong families exhibit a sense of shared responsibility.
They also realize the importance of individual responsibility on the part
of each member.
Strong families recognize right and wrong. They guide children
in choosing behavior that is acceptable to the family and society. They
assess the consequences when any member does something wrong as
well as the responsibility that must be assumed. They guide children in
critical thinking and in considering decision-making alternatives.
Strong families believe in upholding family traditions. They may
also create new traditions that become very meaningful for the family.
They respect the cultural and ethnic traditions of other families.
Strong families realize the importance of healthy interaction
among members. They respect the desire for privacy. They also foster
conversation and sharing.
Strong families share a belief in the importance of a religious or
philosophical foundation. They recognize the stability this provides for
the children as they grow to adulthood and establish their own families.
