11. Writing. Using reliable online and print resources,
research societal, demographic, and economic trends
that impact families. For each trend, determine
adjustments individuals and families will need to
make to cope with these trends. Prepare your conclusions
in a written report. Be prepared to discuss your fi ndings
in class.
12. Speech. Prepare a 3-minute oral presentation on TV shows or
movies that depict various family structures. Also cite shows or
movies that feature families in various stages of the life cycle.
Discuss how these families differ. What do these fi ctional family
members do to strengthen their families?
13. Writing. Write responses for the following questions: What are your
role expectations of yourself in marriage? What role expectations
would you have of a spouse? If your spouse has different
expectations, how would you resolve the conflicts? Be sure to check
your responses for correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
14. Reading. Using reliable Internet or print sources, research how
strong families have influenced society over the past 50 years.
Discuss your fi ndings in class.
15. Speech. In small groups, discuss the changes that occur in roles,
major goals, length of stage, number of relationships, and special
problems in each of the stages of the family life cycle.
16. Writing. Write a one-page report about which stage of the family life
cycle you think is the most enjoyable for family members. Which
stage of the family life cycle do you think is the least enjoyable for
family members? In what ways can family members make the most
difficult stage less difficult or more satisfying? Be sure to check your
report for correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
17. Speech. Using Internet sources, research family functions in the
United States and compare them with family functions in other
cultures. Note similarities, differences, strengths, and weaknesses.
Using presentation software, create a presentation to share your
fi ndings with the class.
