4 About the Authors James Mack teaches a heavy equipment technician training program for both high school and adult students at Berks Career and Technology Center in Pennsylvania. He grew up in the Heavy Equipment industry, working as a me- chanic and operator for his family’s excavating company. Mr. Mack is an alumnus of Berks Career and Technology Center, where he studied Automotive Technology. He then attended Pennsylvania College of Technology, earning as- sociate degrees in Diesel Technology and Heavy Construc- tion Equipment Technology. Mr. Mack has been teaching for over 15 years and holds numerous certifi cations, includ- ing ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician, ASE Mas- ter Truck Equipment Technician, and the AED Foundation Certifi ed Diesel Equipment Technician. He has also served as a subject matter expert, helping to develop curriculum for various publishers and revise tests for the National Oc- cupation Testing Institute (NOCTI). Jason Daniels has over 20 years of experience in the diesel industry and has been an instructor at the Univer- sity of Northwestern Ohio for the last 13 years. Mr. Daniels has a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Management and associate degrees in Automotive Technology, Diesel Tech- nology, and High Performance Motorsports Technology. He an ASE-Certifi ed Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician and holds his ASE Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Spe- cialist Certifi cation. He has also earned MACS certifi cation for air conditioning and has a commercial driver’s license. Mr. Daniels has served as a contributing editor or a review- er for several diesel technology and automotive technology publications. Mark DeHart works as a full-time Advanced Diesel Transportation instructor in Central California. He received formal training as a diesel technician in the United States Army. After achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, Mr. Dehart became an instructor with the military and continued to train soldiers in the diesel technology fi eld. Currently a member of the Disabled American Veterans, he works to help veteran students who are coming out of the military and looking to make a start. Mr. DeHart has a master’s de- gree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Career and Technical Education. He has worked as a technical writer and certifi cation designer for Snap-On Tools and Kubota. He has also worked with colleges across the country, assisting in the development of diesel programs that are adaptive to the ever-changing needs of students. Andrew Norman is a diesel engine specialist with more than 30 years of industry experience. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and re- ceived advanced training in earthmoving equipment main- tenance from the Auburn University School of Engineering. Mr. Norman is a Certifi ed Manufacturing Technologist, a Certifi ed Materials & Resource Professional, and a Certifi ed Lubrication Specialist with the American Society of Tribolo- gists and Lubrication Engineers. Mr. Norman is the owner of Norman and Associates, and has worked for Detroit Die- sel Allison, Inman and Associates, Chevron Lubricants, D-A Lubricants, Cummins, and Life Cycle Engineering.
