• Being honest with yourself is important for knowing the real you and
choosing a satisfying career path. Understanding yourself begins by
understanding your resources.
• Understanding your personality helps you choose a career you will like.
Having a pleasant personality helps you get jobs and do them well.
• What you know and feel about yourself is your self-concept. There are
many factors that influence a healthy self-concept. Your self-concept can
affect your chances of getting and keeping a job.
• Interests play a key role in your career. People who find their work
interesting are usually successful and happy. A self-assessment
inventory may help you identify your interests.

• Having a positive attitude is important for success in the workplace.
Considering your aptitudes and abilities can help you choose a career
that is right for you.
• Knowing your preferred learning style or styles can help you determine
the best way to learn new information or skills. It also can help you
identify potential career interests.
• Each person has a set of values that reflect his or her beliefs and ideas.
Your life experiences and your family, friends, and community influence
your values. Considering your values will help you make career choices.
