xii New to This Edition The following changes have been made to the 11th edition of Electricity & Electronics to strengthen the integrated learning solution and provide up-to-date information on the latest technology. New Chapter 1: Safety explains general safety information, including electric shock, personal protective equipment, and many of the topics required in OSHA safety training. New Chapter 28: Networking Fundamentals for Electronics presents network classifi cations, designs, and hardware. New Chapter 29: Wireless Technology introduces aspects of wireless networking, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular technology. Content was added throughout the text to align with ETA-I’s Student Electronics Technician (SET) Certifi cation. Th is additional material will prepare students to pass the SET exam and earn credentials. Th e most notable change to this edition is the removal of dated technology information and replacement with current technologies and processes. Chapter illustrations have been revised to refl ect new technologies. In addition, new photos were added to complement the content. Up-to-date pedagogical features provide students a learning edge, including Objectives and a list of Key Terms at the beginning of each chapter, a Section Review at the conclusion of each section in the chapter, chapter Summary, and questions at the end of each chapter. Th e types of questions include: Know and Understand are autogradable questions that enable students to demonstrate knowledge, identifi cation, and comprehension of chapter material. Apply and Analyze cover basic concepts presented in the chapter so students can evaluate their understanding of the content. Critical Th inking questions require students to make connections beyond the text. Th ese questions extend student learning and develop higher-order thinking skills. Th e addition of EduHub, an easy-to-use learning hub, delivers the foundation and tools that improve student retention and facilitate instructor effi ciency. For the student, EduHub provides an eBook with text-to-speech capabilities, highlighting, and bookmarking activities, and digital versions of the Lab Workbook questions and activities. Th e previous edition’s student supplements, Study Guide with Laboratory Activities and NI Multisim Lab Manual, have been combined into one product, Lab Workbook, providing instructors and students with all of the activities in one location.
