Th e Occupational Outlook Handbook has excellent tips for conducting a job search. Start by talking to your parents, neighbors, teachers, or guidance counselors. Th ese people may know of job openings that have not been advertised. Many job search engines are available online that can provide you with hundreds of jobs available in your area. Many manufacturers post job positions that can be accessed from their websites, Figure 2-10. Private employment agencies might provide leads also. However, they often charge a fee if a job is found. When applying for any job, you must provide a résumé. A résumé is a brief outline of your education, work experience, and other qualifi cations for work, Figure 2-11. Th e actual content of a résumé may vary according to the type of job for which you are applying. Typical information includes contact information, present job position, work history, educational background, professional and personal accomplishments, and recognitions. A well-written résumé can help you get an interview. Make sure that your résumé is precise and without errors. Once you have secured an interview, it is important to be prepared for it. Read the following tips for a successful interview. Preparation Learn about the organization. Have a specifi c job or jobs in mind. Review your qualifi cations for the job(s). Prepare to answer broad questions about yourself. Review your résumé. Arrive before the scheduled time of your interview. Personal Appearance Be well groomed. Dress appropriately.
