SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR THE ELECTRICITY
AND ELECTRONICS SHOP
There is always an element of danger when working with electricity.
Observe all safety rules that concern each project. Be particularly careful
not to contact any live wire or terminal, regardless of whether it is con-
nected to either a low voltage or a high voltage. Projects do not specify
dangerous voltage levels. However, keep in mind at all times that it is pos-
sible to experience a surprising electric shock under certain circumstances.
Even a healthy person can be injured or seriously hurt by the shock or what
happens as a result of it. Do not fool around. Working with electricity can
be fun, but it can also be dangerous!
Be concerned for everyone else’s safety, too. Wherever you are working,
check for electrical hazards. When you identify a hazard, report it to your
teacher or supervisor. Also, watch how others work. If someone is working
in an unsafe manner, stop them and explain what they are doing incorrectly.
Generally, workers use unsafe techniques because they do not realize the
danger. By making them aware of the risks, you may save a life. If you iden-
tify an unsafe process or procedure, alert someone of the problem. As you
gain knowledge of electrical safety, you have a responsibility to use your
knowledge to help ensure the safety of others.
