Section 1.1 Your Career
No matter what direction you choose, education and training will
be necessary to be successful. There are many foundation skills that
are necessary for success in any career. Some of those skills include:
• basic skills—reading, writing, listening, speaking, and math;
• thinking skills—decision making, creative thinking, problem
solving, visualization, reasoning;
• personal qualities—self-management, integrity, honesty,
sociability, responsibility;
• technology skills—social media knowledge, software skills,
systems skills; and
• business skills—planning, organizing, negotiating, leadership,
communication.
Strengthen the skills that you have and set a goal to improve those
that need additional work. For example, if you are a strong leader, look
for additional opportunities to lead. Consider running for president
of a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) or volunteer
