Lab Introduction The HVACR technician must rely on the multimeter when troubleshooting electrical systems. It is impossible to accu- rately diagnose and find the root cause of a problem without the facts provided by the multimeter. However, the tech- nician must know how to use the meter correctly and know the meter’s limitations and accuracy. The meter is a tool, and if used incorrectly, it can be damaging to the user and system under test. The multimeter owner’s manual will be required for this lab. If necessary, the manual can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. Equipment • HVACR type multimeter with built-or or plug-in inductive clamp • Test leads • Alligator clip attachment • Temperature probe • Owner’s manual Procedure 1.
