color, shape, line, and texture. When the elements of design are
used effectively, according to the principles of design, the goal of
harmony is created. This is true for buildings, paintings, landscapes,
interiors, and sculpture, as well as apparel.
Design
is the plan, or artistic arrangement, used to put an idea
together. The process of designing is the selecting and combining of
the design elements according to the principles of design in order to
achieve harmony. The design process is illustrated in
12-1.
Balance
Balance
implies an equilibrium or steadiness among the parts of
a design. It involves the distribution of visual weight and is achieved
