Brazing and hard soldering join the tube and fi tting by using a low melting point, nonferrous metal to secure the joint without melting the base metals. The designs usually require split fl anges or other devices to secure the fi tting to the component. See Figure 8-22. Plug Bushing Reducer Tee 90° Elbow Union Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 8-18. Several of the common threaded pipe fittings available for assembly of fluid conductor lines in hydraulic systems. Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 8-19. Pipe threads or fittings with straight threads are used to attach hose fittings to hydraulic components. The seal on fittings with straight threads is obtained using an O-ring or a compression washer. Thread OD Thread ID 37° 37° Thread OD Thread ID 45° 45° A B Gates Corporation Figure 8-20. A 37° or 45° flare is used to provide a seal between components and tubing. A—Hydraulic systems typically have a 37° flare. B—A 45° flare may be found in other applications.
