symbol is placed above the reference line, the weld is to
be made on the other side of the joint, Figure 6-19. By
placing dimensions on the symbols, the exact size of the
weld can be indicated. The complete welding symbol
gives the welder instructions for preparing the base
material, welding process, weld surface contour, and fin-
ish. See Figure 6-20.
Weld Positions
Many weldments are made on site, so the welder
must be able to weld in all positions—flat, horizontal,
