registered dietetic technician (DTR). A
trained food and nutrition professional
who works under the supervision of
a registered dietitian when providing
nutrition care. Dietetic technicians also
work independently as part of the food

registered dietitian (RD). A nutritionist who
holds a bachelor’s degree from an approved
program (designated by the ACEND),
has completed a supervised internship,
and has achieved a passing score on the
national examination administered by the
Commission on Dietetic Registration. (6)
Rehabilitation Act of 1973. A federal law
that prohibits the government from
discriminating against people with
disabilities. (16)
rehabilitation counselor. A counselor who
helps people deal with the effects of
disabilities, including personal, social,
physical, and vocational ramifications. (11)
renal specialist. In reference to a clinical
dietitian, one who counsels patients
experiencing kidney problems, such as
those who have had transplants or require
dialysis. (6)
research dietitian. A clinical dietitian
specializing in research. For example,
research dietitians may work in health care
or academic institutions, exploring and
defining the role of nutrition in acute and
chronic diseases. They may also work in
the food industry or for pharmaceutical/
nutraceutical companies to examine the
role of functional foods, supplements, and/
or drugs on intake of foods/nutrients and
eating behavior. (6)
residential interior design. Design that
includes single-family houses, multifamily
houses such as duplexes, apartments, and
condominiums, and any other form of
residence. (9)
residential interior designer. A professional
who focuses on the design needs of
individuals and families in their interior
