You may be familiar with many student organizations at your school.
Some exist specifi cally to help you and other young people learn the
skills they will need in the work world. These organizations are known
as Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs). Joining one or
more of these organizations can benefi t you in many ways.
Reasons to Join
A CTSO related to your career interests can help you develop the skills
you will need to succeed in your career. As part of an organization, you
will have access to in-depth, profession-related knowledge. You will be
working with peers who share similar values and goals. Staff, organiza-
tion leaders, and teachers can provide you with valuable insights you will
need on your career path. The friendships and networking connections
you nurture now can also be benefi cial throughout your career.
No matter what career you choose, a CTSO will help you acquire and
develop abilities you will need for career success. Qualities such as lead-
ership, cooperation, creativity, responsibility, and fairness will help you
advance in any job. Skills in planning, communication, and teamwork will
make you an essential employee.
Some CTSOs are directly involved in the subject of personal fi nance.
They include FCCLA, DECA, FBLA, BPA, and SkillsUSA.
