24. Choose one of the following types of cereal products: breakfast foods, fl ours,
pastas, or rice products. Visit a grocery store and make a list of as many products
as you can fi nd in the group you chose. Don’t forget to list canned and frozen
products as well as dried products. Make a price graph of all the products you
listed.
25. Oatmeal requires twice its volume of water for cooking. The volume of the cooked
cereal equals the combined volume of the dry cereal and the water. For example,
1 cup of oatmeal would require 2 cups of water for cooking. This would produce
3 cups of cooked cereal. Figure how much oatmeal and how much water would
be needed to make four ½-cup servings of cooked oatmeal.

26. As a class, prepare a survey form to use in interviewing young children about
their favorite breakfast cereals and the television commercials used to advertise
those cereals. Individually, use the completed survey form to interview three young
children. Compile your fi ndings with those of your classmates and summarize
them in a report for parents. Make the reports available at open houses or parent-
teacher meetings in an elementary school.
