study your subjects, and do as well as you can.
You also have a role as a family member. In your
role as a family member, you may have certain
chores that you are expected to do. You are
probably expected to follow family rules con-
cerning things such as curfew. You also have a
role as friend. In your role as friend, you may be
expected to join your friends at parties and other
social activities.
One of the challenges of life is to balance the
many roles that you have. Often, the demands
of different roles compete for your limited
amount of time. For example, your role as stu-
dent requires time for homework. Your role as
friend requires time for going to the movies.
Your role as family member requires time to do
laundry. You must figure out a way to manage
your time to meet these demands.
As you move through adulthood, you will
add many roles to your life, 23-33. You are likely
to add the role of employee. The role of
employee will require that you be at work at
specific times and perform your job well. You
will add the role of citizen. Your role as citizen
requires that you be informed about current
issues and vote. You may also add the roles as
spouse and parent. These roles add responsi-
bilities for relating to and taking care of others.
