14. Review the Terms to Know list at the
beginning of the chapter. In teams, create
categories for the terms and classify as many
of the terms as possible. Share your ideas
with the class.
15. Read the text passages that contain each of
the following terms: hospitality, foodservice
industry, lodging industry, travel industry,
tourism industry, and recreation industry.
Write a defi nition of each term in your own
words. Verify your defi nitions by rereading
the text and using the text glossary.

20. Create. Create a poster illustrating the diversity
of the hospitality industry in your local area.

22. Reading. Read a credible magazine,
newspaper, or online article about the impact
of the economy on the travel and tourism
industry. Determine the central ideas of the

who, what, when, where, why, and how of
the article’s central idea.
23. Writing. Write an essay on how tourism
affects the economy in your area or state.
24. Speaking. Research the different types of
career and technical student organizations.

as a hotel, motel, or bed-and-breakfast. Write

bureau to ask about recreation opportunities
in your area. Give an oral report to your class
about your fi ndings.
27. CTE Career Readiness Practice. Imagine it is
fi ve years in the future and you are starting
your fi rst full-time job. Your new employer
is a meeting, event, and convention planning
agency, and you know the work is fast-
paced and demanding. You have watched
some family members and friends suffer the
effects of workplace stress on their health
and wellness over the years. Your goal is to
maintain health and wellness by developing
a plan for handling workplace stress.
Investigate and evaluate the resources on the
National Institute for Occupational Safety and
Health link on the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) website. Then write your plan for
preventing job stress.
