Threadless connectors are used to connect the conduit to the
metal boxes. Insert the conduit through the box knockout opening,
and tighten the nut on the inside.
In new work, the conduit is put in place before the house is
completely built. After the walls have been finished, wires are run
through the conduit and connected to switches and outlets.
Rigid conduit, Figure 10-14, comes in both black and galvanized
types. It looks very much like water pipe. The principle difference
between rigid conduit and water pipe is that the conduit is softer,
making it easier to bend. Rigid conduit should be closely inspected
for sharp projections on the inside that might cut the insulation from
wires when pulling them through the conduit.
