Once they finish, however, they may transfer it to a digital format to modify. Drawing software easily captures the human imperfection of hand sketch- ing, such as wandering lines. For exercise seven, take one of your contour drawings and move it to a digital format. To do so, scan and save it to a computer. Upload it to the drawing software and use the fill feature to fill your drawing’s contour lines with color. Use different tints and shades of the same color to add perceived depth to different parts of the drawing. Save it and print it out. See Figure 13-22. Sketching Tips Contour sketches are only a beginning drawing tech- nique. You will learn many tips for adding texture, shade, and shadow later in this chapter. There are also many suggestions for improving your sketching technique. Many great books are devoted just to the details of how to sketch. Pick several to study the techniques suggested by different profession- als. All books will encourage you to practice often and feel confident in what you are learning, practicing, and doing. Other tips include Draw every line deliberately. Begin a line with a point and end the line with a point. You can achieve a certain quality of line with this type of conscious, deliberate effort.
