Focus Your Reading
1. Create two columns in your notebook. As you read, list each
factor affecting decision making in the fi rst column. In the second
column, summarize how that factor affects decision making.
2. For each term, identify and describe an example from your
own life.
Y
ou will make many decisions throughout your life. Some
will be routine decisions, the choices that are made every day
without much thought. For instance, every morning you make a
decision to get up. Most of the time you will not think about this
decision for too long or you will be late for school. If you feel sick
or have a headache, you may think longer about how this decision
may affect you.
For a planned decision, you use more time and energy to make
the best choice. Deciding on a career or making an expensive
purchase are examples of planned decisions. These decisions are
likely to have long-term effects, which is why making good planned
decisions is so important.
