Leona Johnson, EdS, currently resides in Northeastern Minnesota,
where she pursues and maintains healthy interpersonal relationships with
friends and family in her community. Her career includes being the PK-12
Director of Curriculum and Instruction and elementary principal in her
former district, and she continues to provide input into local educational
initiatives, as well as into community endeavors. Johnson has imple-
mented many varied initiatives in K-12 curriculums, and she has practiced
fi rsthand her knowledge and skills in using the best teaching and learn-
ing practices in multiple subject areas, leading collaborative work groups,
facilitating consensus building in group decision making, and partici-
pating in group goal setting with both staff and community members.
As a teacher, principal, parent, and grandparent, she has experienced the
challenges and joys of guiding youth toward reaching their potential. As a
friend and lifelong spouse, she continues to contribute much to the lives of
those around her.
A participating member of several professional and community orga-
nizations, Johnson has received recognition for her various academic and
professional endeavors, including a Kohl Fellow Scholarship and Award
of Excellence for her contributions to teaching secondary family and
consumer sciences. In her years serving the educational community, she
brought in several million dollars in grant monies for various educational
programs and initiatives. A native of Canada, Johnson previously taught
individual and family relations at the University of Wisconsin-Stout,
where she also served as a research specialist.
