Chapter 1 Review
8. How does marketing affect your family?
Give an example.
9. Suppose you have an idea for a new
business. What would the business
be? Draw conclusions about how a
marketing plan could benefit your
business. When and how would you
conduct a SWOT analysis?
10. Think about your life after high school.
How might marketing affect your future?
Give three examples.
Connect to Business
1. Talk with the manager of your
workplace, your school store, or a store
in your neighborhood. Ask, “How does
marketing help your business achieve its
goals?” Record the answer.
2. Collect two or more advertisements for
a specific product. Make a poster that
illustrates the marketing mix. Label each
of the Four Ps.
Explore Careers
1. Look in the “Help Wanted” section of
your local newspaper. Find a marketing
job that appeals to you. Explain why you
are interested in the job. Attach the ad to
your paper.
2. Collect at least 10 ads for different
marketing jobs. Organize the jobs based
on the Four Ps and mount on paper.
3. Visit the Web site of your favorite store,
business, or brand, for example, The
Gap
(www.gap.com). Click on the link
“Careers” or “Jobs.” If you do not see
such a link, click on the “Company
Info” or “About Us” link. Then look
for and click on the “Careers” or “Jobs”
link. Find a job that appeals to you.
Print out the information about the job.
Write down the job title and describe
your duties if you had the job. What
qualifications would you need? What
would you have to do to get those
qualifications? Why does the job appeal
to you?
Connect to the Internet
1. Name a product that you would like to
buy. Find a Web site where that product
is sold. Describe the marketing mix for
that product, based on the information
on the Web site. Does this marketing mix
meet your needs?
2. Find another Web site that sells the
product you named in item #1. Compare
the two marketing mixes. From which
Web site would you purchase the
product? Why?
3. Find the Web site for the
American Marketing Association
(www.marketingpower.com). Find out what
the organization does. What kind of
information can you get from this Web
site? How might this Web site help you
to be a better marketer?
