Chapter 4 Electrical Prints, Specifi cations, and Codes 45 Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Normally, the panel and circuit are identifi ed next to the arrow. The number of arrows at the end of a conduit line indicates the number of circuits whose conductors are contained in the conduit. See Figure 4-2. Lighting Symbols Switches, lighting outlets, and fi xtures are nor- mally shown on the electrical plan. Switches are identifi ed by an S symbol perpendicular to the wall where the switch is located. Sometimes, a line is drawn through the S and touching the wall. Subscript letters and numbers are added to identify various types of switches. Figure 4-3 illustrates several switch symbols. Symbols used for lighting outlets and fi x- tures vary. Some standard symbols are shown in Figure 4-4. Normally, each fi xture symbol is accompanied by a letter corresponding to Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 4-1. Circuits are identifi ed by lines on the drawing. The lines do not show the exact location of the conductors they only show which devices are connected. An arrow at the end of a conductor run indicates a run to the panel. The top conductors are routed to circuit 20 in panel LP-1. The bottom conduit contains conductors for circuits 2 and 4 of panel PP-1.
